Biopiracy, the exploitation of the natural and intellectual resources of a country without proper compensa-tion, is nothing new in Brazil. The most notorious case is that of Englishman Henry Alexander Wickham, who in 1876 stole rubber tree seeds, hid them between banana leaves and shipped them off to a new plantation in the British colonies in Ceylon, Malaysia. In a few decades the plantation would become the main exporter of latex, ruining the Amazon’s lucrative monopoly on the rubber business.

Text II - Piracy on the web
"Tropa de Elite" is a movie based in a book named Elite da Tropa by Luiz Eduardo Soares, Rodrigo Pimentel and André Bastista. Mr. Soares is a sociologist, Rodrigo and André are members of the BOPE (a special military troop in Rio).
Before its national release in the last October 12, illicit copies of it were on the web, and almost everybody had already seen it. Because of this, the Director promised the official version would be a little different.
The three people, accused by the movie piracy, work in the company responsible for the movie subtitles. Three copies were made, and one of them was given to Alexandre Mofati, an actor of the film.
Nobody knows exactly who put the copies in the internet, but he police are investigating the case.
